Sing With Us!

What to expect at a Guelph Chamber Choir Audition:

Take a deep breath and relax! We don’t have any rocks.

For potential members, the auditions are simply a way for the conductor to see how you would fit vocally with the choir, and for current members, it is a chance to ‘take stock’.

The conductor is looking forward to hearing you sing and wants you to do your best. She will be listening for your vocal range and tone, intonation and general musicianship.

FOR NEW SINGERS, before the audition please fill out the “New Singer Survey” form and return it to pauls@guelphchamberchoir.ca

Your audition will consist of the following:
1. Singing a piece of your choice (keep it shorter, and please choose a piece that you both enjoy and that suits your voice; different musical styles are welcome)
2. Scales and arpeggios to hear your vocal range and colour
3. Preparation of your voice part from the chorus, “And He Shall Purify” from Handel’s “Messiah”
4. A short piece of sight-reading

Auditions may take place in person or over zoom.

Rehearsals: Mondays at 7:15 pm
Rehearsals take place on Monday evenings from 7:15-9:45 PM at Harcourt United Church, 87 Dean Avenue, in Guelph. Parking is available in the church parking lot.

Fees: $300
Choir fees are an important part of the finances of GCC, to help cover a portion of the costs of rehearsal space, music, and other incidental expenses. The membership fee of $300 is payable by e-transfer to info@guelphchamberchoir.ca or by cheque made out to the Guelph Chamber Choir. (If fees are a barrier to involvement in the choir, we welcome a conversation to address this.)

If you are in a position to support the GCC further, we ask that you consider a fee of $500, which includes a $200 tax receipt.
